It can't be said enough just how hazardous it is to drive around with a broken car windshield defroster. You might get away with it during the warmer seasons however, winter is the season to have a fully-functioning windshield defroster.

Your vehicle has two defrosters, a front and a rear defroster. Read on for more information!

CAUSES OF BROKEN WINDSHIELD DEFROSTERS

Broken Wires
This is one of the most common causes of a malfunctioning or not at working rear defroster. The wires can break due to many reasons such as an accident or regular wearing. If you notice your rear defroster not working, check the wires for any broken parts.

Malfunctioning Fuse

A bad fuse is often the cause of rear defroster problems. Fortunately, it is very easy to tell if this is the case and It is also easy to fix. Check the fuse first if your rear defroster isn't working. Your vehicle's owner's manual will tell you which fuse it uses.

Coolant Deficiency

A lack of coolant in your vehicle's HVAC system also means that the front windshield defroster will not work. This is because the car's HVAC system uses coolant to carry out its function of cooling and heating up the car as needed. An easy way to check for sufficient coolant level is by turning the AC on, if its cool then there's sufficient coolant.

A Blockage

A good tell tail sign of a blockage is a blower motor that blows no air or cool air rather than hot air. The vents could be blocked by snow/ ice. Another cause of a malfunctioning front windshield defroster could be a clogged fresh air intake. These are the most common blockages to check for in the case of a malfunctioning front windshield defroster.

It can be a lot of work trying to diagnose the cause of your broken windshield defroster. Thus, If you need windshield defroster repair, we invite you to bring your vehicle to Grahams Auto & Truck Clinic today!
